Every year is different at Creative Critters Academy so that your child can attend preschool for more than 1 year and not get bored or have to repeat lessons.. We will be learning the alphabet using the ZOO PHONICS program. I also use methods of the Hooked on Phonics program.

Activities in school...

Circle Time

During circle time, children sing hello, discuss the calendar and weather, say the pledge, sing the alphabet sounds song, do sharing time and further explore the theme, do creative movement, stories, and other activities.

Creative Time

During this time, children will be able to learn musical, bodily-kinesthetic, spatial, interpersonal, intrapersonal, intuitive, natural and linguistic and logical-mathematical skills. They will have time to explore learning through manipulatives and activities of their choice. During this time children will learn a good deal of social skills as well.

Project Fun

As a group, we will work on a project that deals with the special sound and letter or theme we are focusing on that day. This could involve painting, cooking, arts and crafts, or any number of things. A lot of fine motor skills will be used during this time (ie, cutting, writing, coloring, gluing, weaving, etc.) as well as social skills like following directions.

Gross Motor Activities

These will give children the opportunity to use their muscles, engaging in fun, creative, healthy activities.

Fine Motor Activities

These activities help improve small-muscle development and eye-hand coordination. Examples that we will use in our classroom are coloring, weaving, tying, and art projects.

Snack Time

I don't like to miss an opportunity for learning. So, that being said, snacks are generally used and incorporated to the lesson or sound of the day. While enjoying the snack, we may also enjoy a story that is theme related.

Wrap Up/ Kindermusik/ Until Next Time

Depending on the objectives for the day, this time may be spent in large motor activities, creative art activities, whole language activities extending from story time, music time, large group activities, or other activities in preparation for the next class time. In music, children can explore sound, volume, tempo, and rhythm.

Areas of Academics...

Mathematical Development

This area of learning is to use practical activities so that children will become familiar with sorting, sequencing, patterns and counting activities. As they develop their mathematical understanding, they will use mathematical language to describe shape, position, size, volume and number.

Language Arts Including Reading

With a focus on phonics, children will learn their sounds and letter recognition as well as writing.  As they develop in this area they will use these skills to begin to read and write inventively and express and foster creativity.
